The Birdwood Way

During the year, the students in Room 11 will be talking about the values that our school holds and learning to live them out in their lives. We call these values 'The Birdwood Way'. It would be fantastic if the children would be encouraged to live the Birdwood values at home.

Friday's learning

The second day in Room 11 was very busy. First up, our Kiwi Can teachers, Miss A and Mr V visited. They will be coming to teach us about values for the rest of the year. We had a lot of fun at Kiwi Can, and especially loved the game, 'Captain's Coming'.

We had a discussion about what good learners do. Here are our initial ideas:

For our 'brain break' we used a fun exercise video that helped us move like sports-people. We loved it!

During our Math warm-up some of our friends became the leader and helped us count up to 100!

Miss Bland showed us how to assemble a shelf today. Many of us had not seen this type of construction before so found it fascinating. Some of us are very keen to do some building of our own now!

We studied our poem-of-the-week closely today, to find some Sight Words, and punctuation. We also illustrated our poem. We made sure to draw our picture to match the words. The best poem-illustrations are below:

Before we went home some of us started to make the base of our artwork, using Popsicle sticks. We had to count out 10 sticks and lay them down side by side. Miss Bland helped us hot glue the sticks together.

What a busy day! What a busy week! See you all in Week 2!

A brand new start in Room 11

We were so excited to begin learning in Room 11 today! We feel a bit grown up now that we can leave the New Entrant classroom!

This term we will be learning what makes Brazil unique, and of course, we will also have an Olympic focus in a few weeks. We are lucky because our teacher has been to Brazil, and has decorated the classroom to reflect some of the natural beauty found there.

Yesterday Miss Bland showed us some of her treasures from Brazil...

We watched a video called, 'David goes to school'. It's about a boy who doesn't do the right things at school.

We talked about the things he should be doing, then we drew him and wrote some good advise for school children like us.

In our free time we explored some of the Math activities.

We had such a busy day learning all the new classroom routines!
